Tips for mothers to be..
What is to be done -Pre Natal and Post Natal
As a hairstylist I do get many questions whenever I meet people. There is this thing that is behind my head for a long time. Many expecting mothers to be will always say this to me.. can you please make me look good, what can I do or can't do during my pregnancy?
My advise are for the first three months please try not do any CHEMICAL on your hair, meaning no color or perms, as you will be inhaling fumes from the peroxide which I think is not that good.
Secondly, let me clarify that when a women is pregnant, she does take in quite a amount of supplements to help the baby grow and with that means there will be a very thick layer of protein and calcium covering the hair shaft that will make her hair hard and course. In this case I suggest that she does more moisture hair treatments for her hair as this will make her hair softer and also less course, this should be done at lease once every two weeks.
You can only do colors in the later stage of pregnancy as colors only penetrate the hair shaft and not into the blood stream so you have nothing to be afraid of. I would only recommend colors because it will soften the look of the hair and also its easier for the hair to take in compared to perms as sometime due to the thick layer of calcium and protein, perm lotions might not be able to penetrate into the hair shaft and make it hard and difficult for any hairstylist to get a good job done.
Due to the change of hormones in the body sometime its better to keep a simple hairstyle and also try not to get the colors too light as your hair will actually grow faster meaning you will be able to see the regrowth very fast. You also might want to think about cutting your hair to a certain length so that you are able to wear it nicely during your confinement period.
During confinement, many mother are not able to withstand the thought of not washing their hair for a few days, but you can actually get a dry shampoo from the pharmacy and use them for a few days and only after that you can think of using shampoo.
Start by using shampoo for sensitive scalp as this will help your scalp from dryness, as many would always use a very strong anti grease shampoo that will take away the greasiness, this is not advisable as it will make your scalp dry.
Now is also the time for you to invest in a bottle of hair tonic as you will be losing hair very soon. Just apply it to your scalp every time you have cleanse your scalp. This will help prevent hair loss in the near future which normally starts after four to five months after birth.
This is also the time where you start taking care of your scalp and hair. It will normally be dry and frizzy. Do more scalp treatments and also moisture treatments on you hair once every two weeks. Believe me it does show the differents.
If possible do a total make over, its time for you to look sexy and beautiful once more.
